  • One of the most richly-flowering native trees, 'Paul's Scarlet' is a hit throughout the year. Compact and well-shaped, it's ideal for even small gardens.
  • A tree as hard as nails, this hawthorn laughs in the face of frost, poor soil, wind and pollution. It's even pretty salt-tolerant. What's more, it's incredibly easy to grow and care for.
  • Sporting dark green, deeply-lobed, glossy foliage that turns golden and bronze in autumn, it's easy to see why 'Paul's Scarlet' is among the most popular hawthorn trees.
  • A mass of deep, crimson-pink flowers appear in May and June with small red fruits (haws) in the autumn. You can make them into wine, cordial and jelly. Alternatively, leave them for the birds to enjoy!
  • Perfect as a feature tree or at the back of a mixed border, hawthorn makes a great addition to a hedge, too. It's also one of the best trees you can plant for native wildlife (attracting both bees and birds).
